Brazil Explores New Functional and Health Claims Rules
The country’s determinations are set to impact other countries considering similar regulations.
Decision-makers in Brazil are currently working to define the selection criteria for foods and drinks that can bear functional/health claims. Industry experts say that Brazil’s influence will no doubt be an influence on other Latin American countries involved in the early stages of the same process.
Following the creation of a multidisciplinary Working Group made up of representatives of the Pan-American Health Organization, Brazil’s Health Ministry, academics, and the private sector, Brazil has a 24 month deadline to define the selection criteria for functional claim-bearing foods and drinks.
EAS Strategic Advice will hold a workshop on October 17 in Buenos Aires aimed to help companies navigate Latin American nutrition and health claim regulations.
