Whey-ingredients supplier Arla Foods Ingredients (Viby J, Denmark) will showcase two new drink prototypes, a high-protein coffee and a high-protein tea, at the Vitafoods Europe trade show taking place in Geneva, Switzerland, on May 9-12 (Booth G30). Both products feature Arla’s Lacprodan MicelPure micellar casein isolate.

Lacprodan MicelPure micellar casein isolate is produced using gentle membrane filtration technology, the company says. The ingredient has a mild, milky taste; low viscosity during shelf life; and outstanding heat stability during production, the firm adds.

At Vitafoods Europe, Arla will demonstrate Lacprodan MicelPure’s performance in high-protein coffee and tea prototypes. The cold-brew coffee is high in protein, calcium, and caffeine; low in sugar and fat; and serves as “either a morning caffeine boost or a preworkout energizer,” the firm’s press release states. Meanwhile, the protein-rich tea is flavored with yuzu and is also high in calcium to support healthy bones.

In the press release, Troels Nørgaard Laursen, director of health and performance at Arla Foods Ingredients, added, “Consumers are increasingly seeking out beverages that are novel and convenient and also offer a nutritional boost. RTD teas and coffees with functional benefits are riding a major wave right now, and these concepts demonstrate how they can deliver an on-trend combination of protein, calcium, and caffeine.”

At the show, the company will also offer its Rehydrate & Restore prototype, a ready-to-drink beverage combining protein and electrolytes, as well as a multitextured bar with protein in every layer.
