Arla Foods Ingredients to launch a new Easy Bite bar concept at SupplySide Global, taking place from October 29-30th in Las Vegas, NV. The bite size bar concept is made using its customized whey protein solution, Lacprodan EasyBar, which is able to deliver up to 40% high-quality protein in an 18 gram serving. The bar only contains eight ingredients, is high in fiber, and contains no added sugar, fat, or maltitol. Additionally, the concept avoids textural deterioration that often impacts protein bars, allowing the bar to maintain softness over a two-year shelf life, without the need for additional fat or water-binding ingredients like collagen.
“We’ve created this concept to respond to the biggest trends in the protein bar market,” said Peter Schouw Anderson, senior director of performance nutrition at Artla Foods. “Taste and texture are still king but health considerations are increasingly important – for younger consumers in particular. Easy Bite meets all these needs, offering a high-protein, low-fat, fiber-rich option that retains its softness without the need for a long ingredients list. We hope it will create exciting new opportunities for protein bar innovation.”
Arla Foods’ booth (#6425) will also showcase a protein soda concept featuring Lacprodan BLG-100, which offers 10 grams of protein, as well as a “Refreshing in Seconds” concept demonstrating the benefits of Lacprodan ISO.RefreshShake. This latest addition to the Arla Foods’ portfolio is a high quality whey protein isolate for clear shakes that delivers 20 grams of protein per 300 mL/10 oz serving, as well as quick foam breakdown and refreshing taste.
Newly published research on whey protein for blood sugar
Recently, Arla Foods also
- In women with GDM, the whey consumption before a meal lowered peak glucose by −1.0 mmol/ and −0.7 mmol/L in women without GDM, compared to the placebo
- After whey consumption in both groups, insulin, glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide, and glucagon-like peptide-1 levels increased quickly
- Compared with placebo, women with GDM experienced reduced incremental glucose peaks, dose-dependently, after a 30 g whey protein premeal, with a maximum reduction of −2.0 mmol/L.
“Premeal whey consumption acutely lowers postprandial blood glucose in women with GDM and those with NGT [normal glucose tolerance], with 15–30 g lowering the glucose iAUC of women with GDM,” the researchers concluded. “These findings emphasize the need for long-term studies to assess the impact of whey premeals in pregnancies affected by GDM.”
“These findings suggest that whey protein may be a safe, effective and promising nutritional strategy to support blood glucose management in women with GDM,” stated Lise Høj Brunsgaard, research scientist at Arla Foods Ingredients, in a press release. “For this study, our Lacprodan ISO.WaterShake whey protein isolate was selected due to its high purity and rapid absorption profile, which made it suitable for investigating its potential role in maternal nutrition during pregnancy.”
