Allspice, a common seasoning used in baking, comes from the berries of a tropical evergreen tree of the myrtle family that is native to the West Indies and Central America. The berries are picked from the tree before reaching full ripeness and then dried in the sun. The allspice trees can grow to a height of 30 feet.
