Tablet-press manufacturer Korsch AG (Berlin) has acquired Medelpharm, a supplier of compaction simulator technology. Medelpharm’s compaction simulators add capabilities for early-stage material characterization and scale-up to Korsch’s R&D product portfolio. The companies had already been working closely together for more than a year as partners prior to the acquisition.
Korsch’s R&D portfolio is designed to address and overcome challenges like early-stage powder characterization, formulation development, predictive scale-up, and production support. “Covering the full spectrum of tableting technology from single-layer to five-layer as well as core coating capabilities, the new R&D product equipment portfolio serves as a versatile complement to Korsch’s multilayer production machinery,” the company’s press release states.
The new, combined Korsch-Medelpharm R&D equipment line includes XP 1, a robust, single-punch tablet press with small-batch capabilities; Styl’One Nano, a benchtop compaction simulator with integrated analytical software for single-layer formulation development; Styl’One Evo, an advanced compaction simulator with integrated analytical software and multilayer capability, allowing R&D at production speed; and XL 100, a small-scale rotary press for product development and clinical batch production.
