Stepan Company (Northfield, IL) has extended its line of lipid-based ingredients with acquisitions of Marinol, Clarinol, and PinnoThin from Lipid Nutrition BV (Wormerveer, The Netherlands).
Marinol is a line of omega-3 fish oil concentrates including concentrates high in eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).
Clarinol is Lipid Nutrition’s conjugated linoleic acid. The ingredient is backed by clinical research indicating potential benefits for weight management through reduced body fat and increased lean mass.
PinnoThin is another option for weight management ingredients. Derived from pine nut oil, Lipid Nutrition says PinnoThin can stimulate the release of cholecystokinin (CCK), a peptide that promotes satiety signals to the brain.
Stepan’s new ingredients will complement the company’s existing lipid line, Neobee medium chain triglycerides. In order to facilitate the business transfer of these new ingredients, Stepan reports that it will have a new Stepan Lipid Nutrition office headquartered near Amsterdam.
