The international nutraceutical and cosmeceutical company recently announced new positions in their companies in southern India.
In July 2024, international company Sami-Sabinsa Group, headquartered in New Jersey, revealed two new appointments to their management team. Founded in 1988, the Sabinsa Corporation produces nutraceuticals, cosmeceuticals, standardized herbal extracts, fine chemicals, specialty chemicals, and probiotics for various industries. They are also a founding sponsor of the nonprofit WIN (Women in Nutraceuticals).
A July 8 news release announced Dr. Devaraj Reddy as the new chief operating officer, to be based at the corporate office in Peenya, India. In this position, Dr. Reddy will oversee the unit heads of all manufacturing facilities, productions and operations, and exports and commercials. Along with a PhD in chemistry from the University of Mysore, he brings experience in enhancing manufacturing and quality operations, managing complex operations across multiple sites, and experience researching manufacturing standardized herbal extracts and synthetic molecules that conform to global standards.
"The Sami-Sabinsa Group has grown and become increasingly more global, so it’s important to have structure and oversite to support our continued expansion with focus on production, process improvements, and quality,” said Shaheen Majeed, Sabinsa global managing director and CEO, in the news release. “Dr. Devaraj’s scientific background coupled with business experience is an excellent fit for the Sami-Sabinsa Group. His strategic oversight will be pivotal in driving our organizational growth and operational excellence."
Additionally, in a July 29 news release, Sami-Sabinsa Group announced that the current Executive Chairperson, Dr. Anju Majeed, had been appointed to Co-Chair of the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) Karnataka State Development Council for 2024-2025. Part of the organization’s purposes is to help shape India’s herb industry. “It is a privilege to serve as the Co-Chair of this esteemed industry body,” Dr. Majeed said. “Karnataka remains a bright spot in the Indian economy. I look forward to collaborating with council members and industry peers to devise and drive strategic initiatives that will further the industry’s sustainability goals.”
In a recent Karnataka State Development Council meeting, Dr. Majeed explained her vision for more involvement from women in societal and corporate areas. In particular, she highlighted the roles and support of women at Sami-Sabinsa in various areas, such as leadership positions and cultivation roles.

New review from BAPP estimates adulteration of five popular botanicals
September 10th 2024The study focused on the adulteration of black cohosh rhizome, echinacea root or herb, elder berry, ginkgo leaf, and turmeric root/rhizome. The authors reviewed 78 publications with a total of 2995 samples. Of the 2995 samples, 818 were reported to be adulterated or mislabeled.
