NutriLeads BV (Wageningen, the Netherlands) will continue to discuss the importance fiber structure plays in determining which individuals a prebiotic ingredient will be most efficacious in. The company will be attending the SupplySide West trade show happening October 23-27, 2023, in Las Vegas.

On 11:00 AM on October 25 at the SupplySide West Supplier Presentation Theatre (booth #3077), Ruud Alberts, PhD, the company’s founder and chief scientific officer, will “present research demonstrating the importance of prebiotic fiber structure to producing consistent, predictable gut health benefits,” the firm says.

The company points out that because the composition of the microbiota of different individuals varies greatly, and because fiber structure dictates who a prebiotic will be effective in, developing an efficacious prebiotic ingredient will largely depend on ensuring that the ingredient (and its fiber structure) can address a broad range of consumers. The company supplies its BeniCaros prebiotic ingredient, known scientifically as rhamnogalacturonan-I (RG-I).

At SupplySide West, the company will offer BeniCaros formulated into gummy supplement samples. The company says the ingredient is tasteless, odorless, water soluble, and heat/pH stable, making it very formulator-friendly.

“Not all prebiotic fibers are alike,” Albers added in a press release. “Prebiotics with simple structures that can be fermented or eaten by virtually all microorganisms in the gut are like fast food—the benefits may be inconsistent or limited. Research shows that fibers with just the right specificity, like BeniCaros, promote the growth of beneficial bacterial species, regardless of the existing variations in individuals’ gut microbiota composition.”
