Kalsec Inc. (Kalamazoo, MI) has forged an exclusive distribution agreement allowing OmniActive Health Technologies Ltd. (Morristown, NJ) to distribute Kalsec’s paprika-derived zeaxanthin ingredient.
“This partnership broadens the portfolio of world-class eye-health ingredients and solutions that we can offer to our customer base,” stated Sanjaya Mariwala, OmniActive’s managing director. OmniActive’s eye-health portfolio includes its award-winning Lutemax 2020 lutein plus zeaxanthin ingredient.
Kalsec produces spice and herbal extracts, natural colors, and antioxidants for the food, beverage, and pharmaceutical industries. The company expects to benefit from OmniActive’s distribution network for nutritional ingredients.
Zeaxanthin, a carotenoid pigment, has been linked to reducing risk of cataract formation and age-related macular degeneration. Kalsec’s zeaxanthin is produced from paprika, a common food source, and is natural, Generally Recognized as Safe, and, the company says, exempt from certification under the Code of Federal Regulations for color additives.
