Solid-dosage test equipment specialist Dr. Schleuniger Pharmatron Inc. (Manchester, NH) has introduced a new innovation for tablet testing: the SmartTest 50 model. The company says the device is intuitive to use and tests up to five physical tablet parameters: weight, thickness, width, diameter/length, and hardness.

The SmartTest 50 can be used on almost all tablet shapes, the company says, and tests current pharmacopeia requirements. Test data can be printed immediately or be exported to an external computer.

Up to 23 tablet samples can be placed in a carousel at a time, and all further testing is done automatically. The patented SmartAlign system guarantees reliable orientation of test samples. It can even automatically turn oblong and oval shapes to get them properly oriented, and the device features an integrated cleaning function to remove debris and broken tablet fragments after each measurement.

The integrated color touch screen with simple, icon-based navigation is easy to use, and the tester is suited for both laboratory and production environments.
