Martek Biosciences (Columbia, MD), the manufacturer of Life’sDHA brand algal docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), has introduced Brain Armor, a DHA supplement designed for athletes.
Science suggests that the omega-3 ingredient offers a wide variety of health benefits-including cardio, visual, and cognitive support-and Martek feels those benefits are what athletes want.
Accordingly, the company has certified its ingredient with NSF International’s (Ann Arbor, MI) Athletic Banned Substance Certified for Sport program.
“This is a different platform for delivering DHA for brain, eye, and heart health to a new audience,” said Martek spokesperson Cassie France-Kelley in an interview with Nutritional Outlook. “There are other aspects of DHA science that are interesting to us, too, like muscle recovery, oxygen utilization.”
France-Kelley also notes that a clinical study is underway investigating the effects DHA on retired National Football League (NFL) players in relation to cognitive abilities.
The ingredient provides 1050 mg of vegetarian, algal DHA (three soft gels).
