According to Jarrow Formulas, astaxanthin offers antioxidant activity superior to that of vitamins C, E, and green tea.
Jarrow Formulas (Los Angeles) has launched an astaxanthin supplement. Astaxanthin is a natural antioxidant carotenoid derived from the fermentation of the microalgae Haematococcus pluvialis.
According to Jarrow Formulas, astaxanthin offers antioxidant activity superior to that of vitamins C, E, and green tea, according to tests performed at Creighton University. The company says that clinical tests have shown that astaxanthin may promote a healthy inflammatory response, protect the skin during exposure to sunlight, and support joint, brain, and eye health. The company adds that recent trials, including human data, suggest that astaxanthin may protect the cardiovascular and immune systems and may even influence insulin metabolism. Of note, astaxanthin is said to cross the blood-brain and blood-retinal barriers to deliver benefits, says Jarrow.
Jarrow’s formula features BioAstin astaxanthin. Each bottle contains 60 softgels, each providing 4 mg of astaxanthin. Recommended usage is one softgel daily.
