Arla’s Lacprodan HYDRO.365 is highly effective for athletes who require fast recovery after intense training or workouts, the firm says.
A new, branded whey protein hydrolysate ingredient will debut at the upcoming Health Ingredients Europe trade show. Ingredients supplier Arla Foods Ingredients (Viby J, Denmark) says whey protein hydrolysate is considered the “gold standard” of sports nutrition proteins, especially for sports recovery.
Arla’s Lacprodan HYDRO.365 is highly effective for athletes who require fast recovery after intense training or workouts, the firm says. The ingredient is described as a highly purified form that is easier to digest so that recovery time is reduced. The company says one study showed that athletes taking whey protein hydrolysates after exercise recovered full peak power and eliminated muscle soreness after just six hours, compared to several days on standard whey protein.
“Whey protein is already known to be the most effective type of protein for aiding recovery, thanks to its rich amino acid content,” the firm says. “But whey protein hydrolysates like HYDRO.365 are scientifically proven to offer far-superior benefits because they are digested and absorbed more quickly, optimizing the body’s muscle-building and repair response following exercise.”
The company says global sales of post-exercise recovery products rose by 59%, to $5.4 billion, between 2006 and 2011, according to Euromonitor.
“Sales of protein-based sports nutrition products have risen strongly in recent years, but what these figures do not show is the fact that many consumers are also coming to recognize that not all proteins offer the same degree of benefits,” adds Peter Schouw Andersen, Arla’s business development manager. The firm says that while whey protein hydrolysates previously were used primarily by professional athletes, they are now being used by amateur athletes as well looking for higher-quality protein-based recovery products.
Lacprodan HYDRO.365 is suited for ready-to-drink beverages, including clear beverages, and powders, gels, bars, and tablets. It is highly soluble, UHT stable, pH neutral, and has a low bitterness profile, the company says.
