A study recently published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology1 found that supplementation with a 100% eggshell membrane ingredient (BiovaB.I.O. from Biova LLC, Johnston, IA) supported the health of skin and hair. In the randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial, 88 subjects were given either 450 mg of the eggshell membrane ingredient or placebo orally for 12 weeks.

Results showed that subjects taking the eggshell membrane has significant improvements in the appearance of crow’s feet in four weeks, and skin tone in eight weeks. Supplementation also produced significant improvements in hair thickness, reduction in hair breakage, and improvements in hair growth at four, eight, and 12 weeks. No significant differences were found in nail health following supplementation.

“We are very excited about the results of this study and feel that the significant anti-aging benefits demonstrated by BiovaBIO make it a superb competitor in the Hair, Skin and Nails supplement category,” said Pat Schneider, CEO of Biova, in a press release. “Additionally, BiovaBIO will be an excellent complement to our existing topical cosmetic beauty ingredient, BiovaDerm. Together, our two ingredients offer a total system of both inner and outer beauty results.”
