DSM’s (Heerlen, the Netherlands) nutrition sector reported strong fourth-quarter sales in 2011, citing 14% growth compared to the fourth quarter of 2010. The company attributes gains to 5% organic sales growth and 8% growth from its acquisition of Martek Biosciences last year.

The company also reported on its mission for sustainability, stating that it has once again retained its number-one position in the chemical industry sector in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index-the third consecutive year it has held the top position. The company said it is on track to improve energy efficiency by 20% by 2020, passing milestones such as a 13% increase in energy efficiency in 2011 compared to 2008.
