Capsugel's Licaps are designed to mask odor and taste or ingredients, such as krill oil.
Capsule services provider Capsugel (Morristown, NJ) has earned a contract to support formulation of krill oil capsules and other dietary supplements distributed by health and wellness brand Mercola.com.
The partnership is largely centered on Capsugel’s Licaps, hermetically bonded capsules that reportedly mask krill oil odor and taste. Licaps will be utilized for Mercola.com’s krill oil, ubiquinol, and other health products.
“Krill oil contains a high concentration of phospholipids which poses manufacturing challenges in other dosage forms,” said Capsugel formulator and new product development manager Stan Glab. “The Licaps capsule technology, which flushes the capsule with nitrogen after filling to minimize oxygen exposure and aid in long team stability, coupled with our OceanCaps fish gelatin capsules, provide a unique all-marine product that provides a better oxygen barrier than softgels.”
