Camelina has a high smoke point due to its significant oxidative stability.
For manufacturers seeking an alternative and nutritional plant oil, Biodroga Inc. (Montreal) is now a supplier of camelina oil. The oil crop, also known as gold of pleasure or false flax, is harvested in Canadian prairies and other global locales.
While numerous plant species offer attractive fatty acid profiles, Biodroga says that camelina provides more than just omega-3 ALA. The ingredient contains plant sterols and gamma-tocopherols to such an extent that the oil is much more stable than flax oil. Biodroga says the smoke point for camelina is 200ÃÂC/400ÃÂF.
Camelina oil has an almond-like flavor and aroma, and it is grown without the use of pesticides.
