Beneo (Parsippany, NJ) will introduce a new barley beta-glucan flour in its functional-fiber portfolio at the 2023 IFT FIRST Food Expo taking place in Chicago on July 16-19, 2023, at booth S2210. The company’s new Orafti ß-fit ingredient is a natural, clean-label wholegrain barley flour containing 20% beta-glucans. The company says it offers benefits for heart health and blood sugar management.
The ingredient is produced locally in the U.S. and is offered by Beneo worldwide. Beneo calls it “a more affordable solution in the beta-glucans category.” It is suited for a wide range of foods, including baked goods, pasta, cereals, and meal replacements. It can also be used to increase viscosity in dairy alternatives.
“Functional ingredients such as barley beta-glucans, with proven health benefits and approved health claims, offer food manufacturers an easy way to create appealing products with convincing front-of-pack communication and a convenient way for consumers to choose nutritional products that positively impact heart health,” the company’s press release states.
Jon Peters, Beneo’s sales director, Americas, added that Orafti ß-fit “delivers convincing benefits with FDA-approved health claims. Orafti ß-fit, as an economically attractive solution, supports food manufacturers in developing tasty and appealing products with added value in times of tighter consumer budgets. As this is Beneo’s first ingredient that is fully produced in the U.S., IFT is the perfect platform to launch and present this product.”
At IFT FIRST, Beneo will offer heart-healthy waffles featuring Orafti ß-fit served with various toppings.
