Kemin Earns GRAS Status for AssuriTea Green

Article

The water-extracted green tea extract can now be used in foods and beverages.

Kemin Health (Des Moines, IA) has secured GRAS status for its AssuriTea Green tea extract to be used in foods and beverages. AssuriTea Green provides polyphenols and catechins, antioxidant-like compounds largely connected to green tea’s many purported health benefits.

This water-extracted green tea extract does not use solvent extraction. The company says water extraction enables a more diverse polyphenol profile in the end product.

Kemin’s black and green tea extract blend, AssuriTea Wellbeing, received GRAS recognition in September 2011. Both products are available in granulated and water-dispersible dry forms.
