Ready to Eat Insects: Termites

The mainstream food industry is starting to consider entomophagy, the practice of eating bugs.

When asked about his favorite insect to eat, van Huis replies, “I must say that I really like termites. They’re crispy and very nice.” Termites can be prepared in many ways, including boiled, roasted, fried, and smoked.

What do insects taste like? “A lot of people say they have a nutty taste,” says van Huis. But, he adds, the taste depend on the insect and how they are prepared. “Of course,” he adds, “you need to season them like you do normal meat.”
