Ingredient supplier Roelmi HPC (Origgio, Italy) has introduced a new ingredient for mental relaxation and emotional well-being called SelectSieve Zen. The botanical blend marries extracts of holy basil (Ocimum sanctum), lemon balm (Melissa officinalis), and elderberry (Sambucus nigra).

“SelectSieve Zen perfectly targets conditions of stress and anxiety, helping mental relaxation and mood improvement,” the company’s press release says. “It improves sleep quality and induces a sensation of peace of mind while giving new energy to tackle every day’s difficulties.”

It adds: “The ingredient was tested in neural cell models to evaluate the activity on HPA (hypothalamic pituitary adrenal axis) and the support in body answers to stress. SelectSieve Zen was found to reduce the cortisol release and to increase the endorphin release.”

An open human study on 26 volunteers also found that the ingredient helped to improve mood and vigor, reduce anxiety and tension, and improve sleep comfort, the company says.
