A uniquely structured medium- and long-chain triglyceride ingredient (sMLCT) can help support muscle building and maintenance. The new ingredient, NuliGo, comes from plant-based nutritional lipids supplier Bunge Loders Croklaan (Zaandam, the Netherlands) and targets the sports nutrition, active aging, and medical food product markets.

The company says this is the first time this ingredient has been available in the sports and active-aging markets. “This type of fast energy source delivered directly to muscles is something completely new in these categories,” said Emiliano Rial Verde, PhD, vice president of Bunge Loders Croklaan Nutrition, in a press release.

To create NuliGo, the company drew on its experience in plant-based nutritional lipids “and on the latest scientific understanding of lipid absorption and metabolism,” the company said in a press release. NuliGo is offered in oil and powdered formats and, the company says, is based on clinical studies.

The company further explained the benefits of NuliGo’s proprietary combination of medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) and long-chain triglycerides [LCTs]. “It uniquely combines the rapid energy of MCTs and longer-lasting energy of LCTs in a single molecule for greater benefit. By bringing easily accessible energy to muscles, NuliGo sMLCT spares protein for muscle building, maintenance, and recovery. NuliGo, when combined with the appropriate protein, is an ideal ingredient for active adults targeting athletic performance, endurance, strength, enhanced mobility, and post-injury recovery.”

The company says NuliGo is deal for three types of applications: 1) sports nutrition, by delivering rapid, long-lasting energy to muscles, boosting performance and recovery, 2) active aging, by promoting muscle strength and maintenance, and 3) medical foods, by providing balanced energy delivery.
