Supporting Overall Health in Athletes

Douglas Laboratories has launched a new sports nutrition line called Klean Athlete that takes a unique approach to athletic supplementation: promoting overall daily health in athletes. The line, which includes seven products, is NSF Certified for Sport to ensure all products are free of banned substances. The products include Klean Multivitamin, a twice-daily tablet with a unique fruit and vegetable blend that provides nutrients in smaller, more powerful doses. Another supplement, Klean Antioxidant, stars the maqui berry, astaxanthin for antiaging, as well as a patented combination of acetyl-L-carnitine and lipoic acid to help guard against cellular damage stemming from intense training. For cognitive health, Klean Cognitive also features acetyl-L-carnitine and lipoic acid, and also contains vegetarian alpha-GPC. Klean Probiotic supports digestion, including digestion of ingredients key to athletic performance, and also supports immune health. Other supplements include Klean Isolate, a premium-quality whey protein to build and repair muscles; Klean Electrolytes, which replenishes minerals during or after exercise; and Klean Endurance, an all-natural D-ribose chew supplement that restores energy and supports cardiac function and fatigue.

Diabetes-Friendly Bars, Supplements

At this fall’s Natural Products Expo East trade show, doctor-formulated brand InBalance Health unveiled the first product in its line of diabetes-friendly products. The products are designed to support weight loss and glucose management. The first product to launch, a nutrition bar called the INBar, was designed to help consumers better manage their weight by minimizing blood sugar spikes and controlling hunger. Dietary supplements will also be available as part of the line, to support blood glucose and weight management as well as other health conditions such as proper circulation and eye and nerve function.

(Minneapolis), 7-Keto promotes fat burning and maintains muscle mass, without common side effects such as jitters, lost sleep, or upset stomach. Bodybuilding.com states that this signature ingredient in its new formula also promotes increased energy and focus, augmented metabolism, healthy blood sugar levels already within the normal range, and a healthy appetite level.

Flavored Greek Yogurt

Stonyfield’s Organic Oikos greek yogurt is now offered in a range of flavors, including raspberry, strawberry, and pineapple. The yogurt is made with 1.5%-fat organic milk. According the company, emerging research suggests that small amounts of dairy fat may benefit health, while creating an even creamier yogurt texture. In addition to enhancing satiety, CLA, a naturally occurring fat found in milk and dairy foods, may play a role in preventing heart disease and some types of cancer, the firm says. CLA can also help in the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K.

All-Natural Mint Soda

Minta is a unique new concept in the carbonated drinks sector. The all-natural drink is based on what the company says is a famous European drink made by mixing sparkling water and mint syrup. The original flavor is made with all-natural sugar, while the diet version is sweetened with stevia. The beverages are sold in custom 12-oz recycled-PET bottles, 12-oz cans, and 355-ml glass bottles.

Aroniaberry Line

The aroniaberry, also known as chokeberry, is the star of the new Superberries product lineup. The line includes a 100% Pure Aroniaberry Concentrate, which the brand says packs 7 lb of aroniaberries per bottle; 100-calorie packs of Aroniaberry Gummy Chews for a great-tasting, antioxidant-packed snack; and Freshly Frozen Aroniaberries. The company says aroniaberries contain three times as many antioxidants as blueberries.

Low-Acid Coffee

According to the HealthSmart coffee brand, many people who suffer from acid reflux disease, esophagitis, and heartburn, or who have sensitive stomachs, may suffer side effects due to coffee’s high acidity. As such, the brand says it made sure that its coffee is the least acidic coffee on the market. Additionally, HealthSmart coffee offers more health benefits thanks to the company’s proprietary, GRAS-affirmed TechnoRoasting process. The firm says this process helps seal in B-vitamins and essential minerals that can typically be lost during other roasting processes.

Stevia-Sweetened Chocolate

Lily’s Sweets has introduced what it says is the first Fair Trade certified, stevia-sweetened chocolate bars made with 55% cocoa. Thanks to stevia, the chocolates are 25% lower in calories than other 55% dark chocolates sweetened with sugar. The company adds that whereas many other stevia-sweetened products may have overly sweet or bitter notes, Lily’s chocolates utilize a proprietary blend of stevia, erythritol, inulin, and dextrin-all naturally occurring plant-based sweeteners and fibers-for a smooth, more balanced flavor. Each half-bar serving is 160 to 170 cal.
