Bioriginal Food & Science Corp. has announced the acquisition of POS Biosciences Corp. (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada) from Canopy Growth Corp.
Bioriginal Food & Science Corp. (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Cooke Inc., has announced the acquisition of POS Biosciences Corp. (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada) from Canopy Growth Corp. Formerly known as KeyLeaf Life Sciences, POS, which stands for proteins, oils, and starches, will operate independently under the leadership of Jim Shields, its new managing director. In March of 2019, POS had rebranded to KeyLeaf, announcing a shift in its business model from “predominantly contract service-based business to finished product manufacturing, bringing to market its plant-based extracts and ingredients under the KeyLeaf brand.” Shortly thereafter, in June of 2019, the company was acquired by Canopy Growth.
As a result of this current acquisition, Bioriginal will become POS’s largest vendor and customer, while also gaining access to its oil processing, concentration, and molecular distillation facility, which was designed to create value added oils and proteins. According to the company’s press release, POS will also provide research and development services to Bioriginal using its 11 laboratories and six pilot plant processing areas.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to acquire POS,” says Shannon Sears, president and CEO of Bioriginal, in a press release. “POS’s world-leading processing technology combined with its team of scientists in new product development will play a key role in driving innovation for the human and pet nutrition industries.”
This is Bioriginal’s fifth acquisition in the last 12 months. Most recently, the company purchased Softgel Co., based in Colorado. Bioriginal has also acquired companies in Europe and Asia, including The Fatory in The Netherlands, Kroppenstedter Ölmühle in Germany, and Cana Corp. in Japan. Because of this most recent acquisition of POS, says Bioriginal, the company has eight facilities on two continents, which are supported by regional offices in Anahiem, California, Den Bommel, Netherlands and Yokohama, Japan, as well as eighteen warehouses around the globe.
