Hyaluronic acid (HA) ingredients are a primary focus for supplier Bioiberica (Spain). But those ingredients aren’t just standard HA ingredients. Instead, the company offers what it calls “hyaluronic acid matrix ingredients” which combine other nutrients that work synergistically to provide joint health and skin health benefits, the firm says.

The company’s Dermial nutricosmetic ingredient, launched earlier this year, is one example of this hyaluronic acid matrix. As the company explains on its sell sheet, “Dermial is a unique hyaluronic acid matrix ingredient obtained through a proprietary manufacturing process that ensures a high concentration of hyaluronic acid (60%-75%), plus a balance of other glycosaminoglycans (>10%), including dermatan sulfate and chondroitin sulfate, and collagen (<5%).”

At November’s SupplySide West trade show in Las Vegas, Vanessa Villarreal, product manager, sales operations, healthcare, Bioiberica, explained that the ingredient is not just a blend of ingredients mixed together. Rather, the hyaluronic acid, polysaccharides, and collagen are “all in one” and inherent in the ingredient source when it is extracted, and they work synergistically to provide health benefits. The same is true for Mobilee, Bioiberica’s other hyaluronic acid matrix which targets joint support and muscle health and is derived from rooster comb, Villarreal said.

These ingredients, she added, “are not hyaluronic acid; they are something much more than hyaluronic acid.” Rather, “The synergy of the three components—the hyaluronic acid, the polysaccharides, and also the collagen—makes the ingredient have a unique effect in joints [with Mobilee] and in skin and beauty [with Dermial].” She said these are the first hyaluronic acid matrix ingredients on the market.

Indeed, she added, studies have shown that the ingredient offers superior benefits compared to standard hyaluronic acid. For instance, the company has said, an in vitro study showed that Dermial significantly stimulated collagen synthesis compared to standard hyaluronic acid. Villarreal said Bioiberica is working on developing new studies on Dermial to showcase its benefits for skin and beauty.

“People who have started using Dermial, even at its very low dose of 60 mg only, could see the effects very, very quickly,” she stated. “So you can see the effects.”
