POM Wonderful (Los Angeles) talked to Nutritional Outlook about its vertically integrated pomegranate ingredient business. “Our goal is to be able to provide a pomegranate offering that’s cost-effective; from the United States; and for any type of consumable healthy product, including cosmetics, food and beverage, and dietary supplements, in liquid, powder, and other delivery systems,” said Kyle Redfield, industry sales manager.
POM’s ingredient line currently comprises seven ingredients, including pomegranate juice concentrate, pomegranate powder, extracts, and arils (the seeds). The company’s ingredients are uniquely standardized-thanks to the firm’s proprietary extraction process-to 80% total pomegranate polyphenols, including punicalagins, ellagic acid, and other still-undefined polyphenols unique to the pomegranate.
Redfield also noted some notable ways the company’s ingredients have been used in products, including in antiaging and antioxidant products as well as in heart-health soft gels.
