Lowat is a new, patent-pending ingredient said to target fat tissue in three ways: by decreasing fat formation and accumulation and by increasing fat burning. Made from Piper betle leaf and Dolichos biflorus seed extract, Lowat increases the fat-burning hormone adiponectin, enhancing fat metabolism. New Vitamin K2 Brand
Danisco has introduced its own ActivK brand of long-chained menaquinone (vitamin K2). According to the company, long-chained menaquinone such as ActivK offer high bioavailability and bioactivity. ActivK has functional food status in Europe and has received positive opinion from the European Food Safety Authority (Parma, Italy) for bone-health claims, the firm says. Vitamin K2, the subject of many ongoing research studies on bone health, has been linked to calcium regulation in the human body, as well as heart health. Natural Cosmetic Preservatives
Sabinsa has launched two new patent-pending preservatives for cosmetic and personal care products. SabiLize-Alpha and SabiLize-Beta are described as “natural active fractions of various essential oils and phytoextracts.” The company says that when used at 0.5% in cream, both ingredients were found to be significantly protective against Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Escherichia coli, as well as Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger. Longvida, a curcumin (Curcuma longa) ingredient, is said to be absorbed by the body up to 65 times better than standard curcumin.
