White kidney bean-based ingredient bears two health claims for weight loss and starch reduction.
Pacific Resources International (Sydney, Australia) is now the exclusive distributor of Phase 2, a carb-control ingredient from Pharmachem Laboratories (Kearny, NJ), in Australia and New Zealand.
Phase 2 is derived from an extract of white kidney bean, and it backed by two U.S. structure/function claims: one for starch reduction and the other for weight control. When taken just before a starchy meal, the ingredient has been shown to neutralize the digestive enzyme known as alpha amylase, temporarily delaying the digestion and absorption of carbohydrates. This delay allows a portion of the carbohydrates to pass through the digestive system before they can be converted into glucose, which reduces the caloric impact and lowering the glycemic index of the carbohydrates consumed.
Pacific Resources International was awarded the Phase 2 distributorship following its success in distributing Pharmachem’s StarchLite ingredient.
