Canadian Government bestows ACOA grant for innovative contributions.

The Canadian Government has awarded the Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island (PEI), Canada-based advanced research and development center of OmniActive Health Technologies’ (Morristown, NJ) with an Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) grant. OmniActive is a global supplier of nutraceutical ingredients, including capsaicin, lutein, and zeaxanthin.

“Our government recognizes the contribution innovative companies like OmniActive Health Technologies make in helping to create jobs in our region,” said The Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans. “This company is working towards providing an innovative, value-added service to its customers and to strengthening our local economy.”

The ACOA grant, combined with an earlier National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP) financial contribution, will enable OmniActive to build on the outcomes of the R&D efforts supported by NRC-IRAP. According to the company, the funding will support OmniActive's weight management platform, including researching new ingredients in the weight management space.

“OmniActive Health Technologies is very pleased with the support provided by ACOA and NRC-IRAP,” said Jayant Deshpande, PHD, chief technical officer for OmniActive. “Funds provided by these federal agencies will help to accelerate discovery and commercialization of innovative products. We expect to steadily grow our team here.”

OmniActive opened its PEI R&D facility in early 2012.
