For food and supplement manufacturers who are serious about pursuing and maintaining non-GMO verification, understanding the growth and trends of non-GMO production is important, as is continually tracking where and how GM production is occurring. Contamination is a legitimate threat, Heroux warns. “Choosing suppliers who grow non-GMO foods that are not in close proximity to GM crops, or who otherwise have strong traceability and segregation practices in place,” is a high priority, she says.
