Gelita (Eberbach, Germany) is touting a new “beauty from within” collagen ingredient called Verisol. First introduced at the Health Ingredients Europe trade show in November, Verisol is a bioactive collagen peptide that the company says substantially increases skin moisture and prevents the formulation of wrinkles by stimulating skin metabolism and the formation of new collagen.
The ingredient is meant to be taken orally and can be included in products ranging from tablets and capsules to foods like chocolate and instant coffee. According to Gelita, collagen shows growing potential as a “beauty from within” ingredient in the U.S. market.
“In Asia, beauty products based on collagen are already well established, and collagen has been exceptionally successful in a variety of functional foods and nutraceuticals,” says the company. “In Europe and in the USA, consumers know about the benefits of collagen, mostly from the claims made for topical applications. However, collagen is still rather rare as an ingredient in dietary supplements and in health and nutrition products. It can be said, though, that the trend already established in Asia is clearly moving westwards, under the slogan ‘beauty from within.’”
