A recently published randomized, placebo-controlled, multicenter study1 found that supplementation with a proprietary blend of turmeric and frankincense, called Rhuleave-K from Arjuna Natural, may help relieve acute musculoskeletal pain following exercise. In the study, 232 healthy participants with acute musculoskeletal pain were randomized to receive a single dose of 1000 mg of Rhuleave-K or placebo. Participants were categorized according to location of pain: head and neck, upper limb, lower limb, trunk, and general body, following exercise.

Pain levels were assessed at rest, on movement, and applying pressure to the affected area. Results showed that compared to placebo, subjects taking Rhuleave-K saw significant pain reduction in all the affected areas at rest, movement, and when applying pressure. Fastest pain relief was experienced in the head and neck, as early as 40 minutes after supplementation, and complete pain relief at 160 minutes. The most length of time it took for subjects to experience pain relief was 216 minutes, specifically for those with pain in the trunk, namely the chest, pelvis, abdomen, and back.

“People will typically reach for over-the-counter pain relief agents, for managing acute pain because of the swift action,” explains Benny Antony, PhD, joint managing director for Arjuna, in a press release. “Consumers are also increasingly turning to complementary medicine including traditional herbal remedies and natural supplements for pain relief. However, they tend to be slow acting and can take anywhere from a few days to several weeks to take effect.”

“We developed Rhuleave-K to offer consumers a natural and safe botanical aid that can deliver an immediate pain alleviation effect. Turmeric root and frankincense gum resin naturally harbor a range of biological actives and have been used for centuries in traditional medicines to relieve joint pain and inflammation,” adds Antony.

Arjuna Natural will be at Vitafoods Europe 2022 at booth A84.
