Like sugar, erythritol can act as a bulking agent in foods.
Pyure Brands is introducing a certified-organic and non-GMO erythritol sweetener at the Natural Products Expo East trade show held in Baltimore last month. The company says its erythritol is now the first erythritol to have certified organic and non-GMO standing.
Because erythritol shares some of the same bulking properties of sugar, experts recommend combining it with stevia, which has high sweetness but no bulking effects. The resuling mouthfeel of beverages, and structure of baked goods, can be comparably to products formulated with sugar.
Pyure Brands secured non-GMO verification from the Non-GMO Project, which approved of the product following a review of extensive DNA testing on the ingredient.
