DSM Acquires Microbia to Ramp up Carotenoids

Royal DSM N.V. (Heerlen, Netherlands) has acquired Microbia Inc. (Lexington, MA), a biotechnology research and development specialist previously owned by Ironwood Pharmaceuticals (Cambridge, MA).

Terms of the deal have not yet been disclosed.

DSM states that the acquisition of Microbia-a company with research and development experience, including a proprietary fermentation technology-will help the company increase its development of natural carotenoids.
