The strongest commercial plant protein since soy, pea protein is going nowhere but up. (Read more about pea protein in Nutritional Outlook's May issue.) So the time was right for a pea protein RTD, says Edward Cannan, CEO of Botan. Each bottle of Botan packs 12 g of protein thanks to what the company says is its patented, 100%-soluble protein ingredient. He calls the vegan drink “very appealing to people who are trying to lose weight or who are looking at increasing their protein intake very easily.”
Combined with vitamins B6, B12, and C, and sweetened with monk fruit, Botan launched last year and since found a home in GNC stores nationwide as well as in Whole Foods Market. “Sales are higher than anticipated,” Cannan reports. “We went from zero to 2500 stores in 10 months. This massive distribution push has helped us to increase our sales significantly….We have a soluble protein that no one was able to develop. That’s key.”
