Ingredients supplier Danisco (Copenhagen) has launched ActivK brand vitamin K for bone health.

Ingredients supplier Danisco (Copenhagen) has launched ActivK brand vitamin K for bone health.

The company reported the news last Friday, noting that ActivK has functional food status in Europe and has received positive opinion from the European Food Safety Authority (Parma, Italy) for bone health claims.

ActivK is a brand of long chain menaquinone or vitamin K2.

Vitamin K2, which is the subject of many ongoing research studies on bone health, has been linked to calcium regulation in the human body.

“For Danisco, the launch of its new brand opens up the market beyond the borders of food and beverages, as ActivK is also commercialised for the worldwide dietary supplement industry, which is today an established and dynamic market in the vitamin K2 field,” said Peter Wisler, global business development director at Danisco Health & Nutrition. “This launch also shows Danisco’s long-term interest in this new and highly functional vitamin and will open doors for the future,” added Wisler.

The ingredient is suitable for a variety of applications, including dairy, beverages, fats and oils, bakery, cereals and bars, and dietary supplements.
