BASF Reaches Greenhouse Emissions Goal

In 2010, company reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 29%.

In its annual report, BASF (Ludwigshafen, Germany) says it reached one of its environment initiative goals last year, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 29%, compared with emissions in 2002. “The company reached its goal for 2020 for the first time,” it says.

“For the first time in 2010, BASF takes into account the newly drafted standard of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol for reporting emissions along the value-adding chain,” it noted. The guildelines aim for more transparency and conformity in corporate carbon reporting.

The company says that in 2010, it helped reduced its customers’ CO2 footprint by 322 million tons. It says it is now working on setting new goals for greenhouse gas reduction.
