Rhaponticum (Rhaponticum carthamoides) is an Asian herb found especially in Siberia. “It’s used for sports performance. It helps to build muscle. There’s good science behind it,” Kilham says. “I think that in the fitness sector, we’re going to see rhaponticum emerge over the next couple of years as a popular sports item because it really does help with sports performance and muscle tone.” In fact, he says, rhaponticum did start to build a U.S. presence initially, but its presence started to fade after its primary proponent, scientist Dr. Akir Ramazanov, died.
