The American Herbal Products Association’s (AHPA; Silver Spring, MD) 8th Annual Botanical Congress will take place on Saturday, October 19, during SupplySide West 2019 in Las Vegas, NV. The congress be between 7:30 am and 5 pm, and features a number of relevant topics, including a session titled “Impacts of the U.S.-China Trade and Tariffs Dispute.” The first round of U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods was levied on July 2018, and the so-called U.S.-China trade war is now well into its second year, with retaliatory tariffs instituted by China over the past year.
Unfortunately for the U.S. botanical product industry, China is a major player in the botanical ingredient supply chain as well as an important market for U.S. botanical goods. The session will provide examples of how the ongoing dispute has impacted imported ingredients and exports to China of U.S.-produced crops and consumer products. This particular session will be moderated by Jessica Wasserman, Esq. of Greenspoon Marder, LLP, and will include perspectives from Dave Schumacher of the Ginseng Board of Wisconsin, and Anna Ashton of the U.S.-China Business Council.
