Fatty Acid Research Institute expands its research team

An organization devoted to advancing the science of fatty acids, the Fatty Acid Research Institute, has announced the addition of three scientists to its team of researchers.

An organization devoted to advancing the science of fatty acids, the Fatty Acid Research Institute (FARI; Sioux Falls, SD), has announced the addition of three scientists to its team of researchers. The three scientists joining FARI are Kristina Harris Jackson, PhD, RD, (USA), Jan Philipp Schuchardt, PhD (Germany), and James H. O’Keefe, MD (USA).

Jackson is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist who received her PhD in Nutrition from the Pennsylvania State University in 2013. She joined OmegaQuant Analytics, which was founded by her father Bill Harris, PhD, in 2015, where she is currently the director of research. Jackson is also an assistant professor at the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine. She has published over 30 peer-reviewed publications, and alongside her father coinvented the Mother’s Milk DHA and Prenatal DHA tests.

Schuchardt is on the faculty of the Institute for Food Science and Human Nutrition at the Leibniz University in Hanover, Germany. His research is focused on the metabolism of omega-3 fatty acids and their physiological effects. O’Keefe is a practicing cardiologist and professor of medicine at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, as well as director of the Duboc Cardio Health & Wellness Center and Haverty CardioMetabolic Center at Saint Luke’s of Kansas City, Mid America Heart Institute. O’Keefe’s primary interests are omega-3s and their effects on cardiovascular health and longevity, and he has contributed 440 articles to peer-reviewed journals.

These three scientists join FARI’s distinguished lineup of internationally recognized scientists that include: William S. Harris, PhD (FARI’s founder and president), Nathan Tintle, PhD (USA), Aleix Sala-Vila, PhD (Spain), Michael McBurney, PhD (Canada), Yongsoon Park, PhD (Korea), and Robert Wallace, MD (USA). In the 16 months since its formation, scientists at FARI have published 11 fatty-acid-related research papers in peer reviewed journals.
