The claims submitted were for dental health and reduction of postprandial glycemic response.
Beneo (Mannheim, Germany) is celebrating the news that all Article 13.1 claims the company submitted for its Isomalt and Palatinose (isomaltulose) ingredients received positive opinions from EFSA’s recently released fourth batch of health claim opinions. The claims submitted were for dental health and reduction of postprandial glycemic response.
For dental health, claims included “dental health,” remineralization of teeth,” “not cariogenic,” and “do not promote tooth decay.” The ingredients are offered as alternatives to easily fermentable carbohydrates, such as traditional sugars. In order to bear the health claims, foods or drinks containing the ingredients should not lower plaque pH below 5.7 and up to 30 minutes after consumption, so as not to lead to dental erosion, EFSA stated.
