Gelita announced in a recent press release that Verisol, a patented collagen peptide, showed positive benefits with skin health. In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial1, the supplement helped reduce wrinkles, increase skin elasticity, and improve skin hydration.

The study took place over the course of eight weeks and consisted of 66 women between the ages of 35 and 55 years old.1 Participants were then split into two groups which were the treatment group that received 2.5 g of Verisol and the placebo group that received 2.5 g of maltodextrin. Eye Wrinkle volume was measured by using the Primos Compact optical 3-dimensional in vivo measuring device, skin elasticity was measured with the Cutometer MPA 580, and skin hydration was measured with the Corneometer CM 825 over the eight weeks.1

Results from the clinical trial showed skin hydration was boosted at the four-week mark. After 8 weeks, skin hydration improved further and wrinkle volume saw a reduction and skin elasticity increased in the group that received Verisol.1 The study mentioned, “The positive effects on skin moisture and elasticity and the reduction in eye wrinkle volume observed in this study align with comparable clinical studies where similar skin parameters were investigated, although not using bovine-derived collagen peptides.”1 Verisol has shown potential to help increase the skin’s extracellular matrix biosynthesis.

Lara Niemann, Gelita’s beauty category manager, emphasizes the significance of these findings. “Skin hydration is a prevailing consumer need, and Verisol now offers clinical substantiation on this parameter in addition to reduced wrinkles and increased elasticity," explained Niemann, in a press release. "With a low 2.5 g daily dose, Verisol provides economical cost in use and it also boasts confirmation by now seven published Verisol-specific studies. Verisol continues to change the face of beauty by setting the benchmark in scientific substantiation, clinical efficacy, and industry and consumer acceptance and confidence, propelling the beauty-from-within market forward.”

In the study’s conclusion, the authors mentioned that1, “Although further studies are needed, it can be speculated that the positive clinical effects on wrinkle volume, skin elasticity, and skin hydration following SCP supplementation observed are due to the stimulatory effect of these bioactive collagen peptides on the synthesis of type I collagen, elastin, and proteoglycans.” With Verisol’s potential skin benefits, further research will be need to continue exploring its use.
