The ingredient called TruGro CARE Joint Health is a synergistic blend of three extracts derived from epimedium, pomegranate and mango leaf.
Layn Natural Ingredients (Irvine, CA) has launched a polyphenol-rich botanical extract for joint health support that can be used in pet foods, treats, and supplements. The ingredient called TruGro CARE Joint Health is a synergistic blend of three extracts derived from epimedium, pomegranate and mango leaf that work together to support healthy inflammation as well as bone, cartilage, and muscle health, says the company in a press release.
According to the company, epimedium is a source of a flavonoid called icariin, which has been shown in research to reduce bone resorption and promote osteoclast production, protecting against bone health. Pomegranate, for its part, contains a phenolic compound called punicalagin that inhibits the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, while mango leaf contains mangiferin, a potent antioxidant that protect mitochondria and inhibits metabolic processes that lead to inflammation.
“Many products designed to promote joint integrity for our pet companions provide symptomatic relief by improving the range of motion or reducing discomfort,” said Jim Roza, chief scientific officer at Layn Natural Ingredients, in a press release. “However, these products contribute little to resolving the underlying causes of joint dysfunction. Causes such as inflammation, bone resorption, and cartilage loss are all contributory factors that can manifest into a loss of strength, motion, and quality of life. Our TruGro CARE Joint Health ingredient harnesses the power of polyphenols, demonstrated in numerous studies to inhibit oxidative stress, and thereby helping to address the root causes of joint discomfort and impairment.”
“With 52% of dogs and 41% of cats experiencing joint pain, and 36% of dog owners and 28% of cat owners purchasing joint health supplements often based on veterinarian advice, the market for pet joint health supplements is rapidly expanding,” added Doris Ip, marketing manager at Layn Natural Ingredients. “Pet owners are increasingly seeking natural ingredients for their pets, treating them as family members and prioritizing their well-being similarly to human health.”
