Epax receives $10 million investment to grow in innovation and sustainability

Epax disclosed in a recent press release that the company had received a $10 million investment to upgrade their main production facility located in Aalesund, Norway.¹ This investment will help Epax continue to commit to sustainability and with the creation of marine oil products.

The new upgrades will consist of the construction of a new synthesis plant that will utilize fractionation technology. With this technology, Epax can extract a variety of different fatty acids, as well as modify fish oil for their products. The Research and Development team at Epax created the new technology which will be used for Omega-3, Omega-9, and Omega-11 products.¹ These fatty acids are put into health products such as personal care and beauty.

According to the press release¹, “The new plant will have the capacity to process 5000 tonnes of crude oil per year, all derived from North Atlantic pelagic fish species, which are an unusually rich source of Omega-9 and Omega-11.” With the $10 million investment, additionally the crude fish oil tank farm will receive an expansion.

But as well as growth and innovation, we’re also committed to circularity and environmental stewardship,” Bjørn Refsum, CEO of Epax, commented.¹ “The expansion of our facility is designed to ensure that we make the best possible use of the rich resources on our doorstep.”

The new production facility is currently under construction and is anticipated to be “on-stream” in early 2026.¹
