Brightseed (San Francisco, CA), a company that uses AI to discover and develop ingredients from novel bioactives, has announced a strategic partnership with Botalys (Brussels), a company specializing in biomimetic indoor farming of medicinal plants and botanicals. Through the partnership, the companies will leverages their respective capabilities to supply customized and consistent bioactive plants and ingredients to their partners in the cosmetic, nutraceutical, and pharmaceutical industries.

"We are thrilled to partner with Botalys, whose advanced cultivation techniques perfectly complement Brightseed’s capabilities in rapid bioactive profiling and discovery of novel chemistries for product development," said David Brown, vice president of business development, Brightseed, in a press release. "Together we want to set the gold standard on what it means to cultivate health & wellness at the source by offering consistent, sustainable, and traceable plant sources.”

According to the press release, Botalys operates a 40,000 square foot vertical farming facility where botanicals are grown hydroponically through Biomimetic Indoor Farming. This is described as a climate-controlled methodology that recreates ideal conditions, mimicking the plants’ wild biotropes. The addition to Brightseed’s Forage AI may help Botalys to fine tune and optimize the bioactive expression of its plant supply.

"Brightseed's AI-driven approach to uncovering the hidden health benefits of plants aligns seamlessly with our mission to cultivate botanicals that set new standards in quality and efficacy,” said Botalys' co-founder and CEO, Pierre-Antoine Mariage. “With our innovative biomimetic indoor farming technology, we can measure, control and mimic the ecological conditions which traditionally have spun nature’s most profound molecules for human benefit. This collaboration fills a much-needed gap for the industry to respond to climate concerns and consumer demand for nature-based ingredients that meet the highest standards of excellence and sustainability."

Botalys will be at the annual Cosmetic-360 trade show in Paris (AWEX Booth) from October 16-17 to showcase the latest innovations and developments in botanical cultivation. Brightseed will be at SupplySide West in Las Vegas, NV from October 30-31. They will be presenting the latest research on its Bio Gut Fiber, and showcasing its expanding discovery programs, and new bioactive ingredient offerings.
