The South Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety has recognized the effects of Memophenol (from Activ’Inside; Beychac & Caillau, France) on cognitive performance, specifically memory, with an authorized health claim. A number of recent studies have validated the patented formulation of grape and blueberry polyphenols for the support of memory across various age groups.
In a study published in the Journals of Gerontology1, 215 healthy volunteers between the ages of 60 and 70 were randomized to receive either 600 mg of Memophenol per day or placebo for six months. Results showed that supplementation significantly improved verbal episodic and recognition memory (VRM) free recall as well as VRM-delayed recognition, demonstrating that the ingredient may help improve age-related episodic memory decline.
In another study published in Antioxidants2, 30 healthy university students between the ages of 18 and 25 were randomized to receive a single dose of 600 mg of Memophenol or placebo. Ninety minutes after consumption, the subjects’ cognitive function was assessed for an hour. Results showed that supplementation supported working memory and attention, specifically producing a 2.5-fold increase in serial three subtraction variation net scores, compared to placebo.
