The claims regard supporting an antiviral response to the common cold as well as reducing the severity and duration of common cold symptoms, among other benefits.
BeniCaros, a prebiotic ingredient from NutriLeads BV (Wageningen, the Netherlands), is now authorized to use eight new immune-health claims in Australia and New Zealand. The regulatory agency Food Standards Australia and New Zealand (FSANZ) recently approved the claims following a systematic review of the scientific evidence NutriLeads submitted. BeniCaros is made from upcycled carrot pomace.
The claims include:
“In addition to the FSANZ claims, BeniCaros is permitted for use in dietary supplements regulated by Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), without restriction,” the company’s press release adds.
BeniCaros, whose prebiotic fiber is known scientifically as RG-I (rhamnogalacturonan-I), can be taken at a 300-mg daily serving. It is said to train the immune system to respond smarter, faster, and stronger.
