Now Foods (Bloomingdale, IL) announced that its personal care, natural food, and sports products have obtained new third-party quality and purity certifications. The company says that all of its personal care products are now UL (Underwriters Laboratories) ISO 22716:2007 certified for production and quality control. In addition, its entire line of natural foods is now UL Safe Quality Food (SQF) Level II certified, and its Now Sports products are now certified by Informed Sport/Informed Choice.
The new ISO 22716:2007 certification is for production and quality control of cosmetic products made at the company’s Bloomingdale, IL, and Sparks, NV, manufacturing facilities. The company explains that ISO 22716 is an internationally recognized standard with specific requirements for the production, control, storage, and shipment of cosmetic products. The certification is intended to protect consumers by providing manufacturing firms with guidelines for delivering safe products.
The UL Safe Quality Food (SQF) Level II certification for Now Foods’ line of natural foods, meanwhile, assures buyers and customers that food has been produced, processed, and handled according to the highest standards. The company says that this certification further enhances the company’s already high standards for food products, which are non-GMO, and, in many cases, are also kosher and allergen-free.
Now Foods says that in 2016, it was one of the first manufacturers to be certified by UL for its dietary supplement manufacturing process. According to a press statement from the company: “This certification from an independent third party adds another layer of verification demonstrating that Now’s quality system meets and exceeds the FDA requirements for good manufacturing practices.” Now adds that, per the National Brand Certification Program (NBCP) requirements, its facilities undergo an annual surveillance audit.
Now Foods also recently received the Informed Sport/Informed Choice certification from LGC, a globally recognized assurance program for anti-doping in sports nutrition products, for its line of sports nutrition products. The Informed Sport logo indicates that a product has been tested for banned substances.
In addition to the certifications granted to Now Foods complete range of natural foods, cosmetic and personal care, and sports products, the company has also received a number of product-specific certifications. These include Quality Assurance International (QAI) certification for its organic ingredients; Probiotic Strain Verified certification for its probiotic supplements; the National Animal Supplement Council (NASC) seal for its pet products; Gluten-Free Certification Organization (GFCO) recognition for its gluten-free offerings; and Non-GMO Project verification for a number of its products.
Now Foods CEO Jim Emme commented on the latest batch of certifications in a press release, stating that the company’s history of “being proactive in third-party quality certification programs” has long been a company asset. “Although the FDA didn’t begin requiring current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs) for the dietary supplement industry until 2006, Now was one of the first manufacturers to obtain NPA cGMP certification when that program was established in 2000,” he said. “Today, Now has a range of third party verifications to confirm that our quality is as good as we say it is.”
